Mystic Dragon beta

Thank you for your interest in beta reading my upcoming novel, Mystic Dragon.   It’s been a long journey, so I’m excited to finally be sharing this with people outside of my editor, agent, and writing group.  I’ve had a large number of people asking to be a part of this process, so I’ve created this private web page to explain everything.

You can download the book here on Dropbox. Formats:  PDF, MS Word, Kindle (mobi), and ePub (other book files)

folder password:  crow

Ask me if you need technical assistance with any of these files.

Desired Feedback

As you read, please keep a critical eye open. I invite you to get lost in the story (that would be awesome!), but ask yourself, “What is it about this scene/chapter/character/plot that is, or is not, working for me?”

What I’m looking for:

  1. Your overall impression of the story.
  2. Your opinion on the book’s pacing.
  3. Whether you became confused, and if so, at what point in the story?
  4. Your thoughts on the approach I use to tell multiple character viewpoints.
  5. Whether you were ever bored, and if so, at what point.
  6. Whether there’s any egregiously bad writing.
  7. What your favorite parts of the book were.

What I do not need:

  1. Line edits
  2. Spell check
  3. Grammar corrections   (I have editors for all this stuff!)

How to provide feedback

When you’re done reading the book, please take this Google survey. (Beware: It contains spoilers, so don’t go there until you finish the book!)

I need to return this completed book back to my editor in early October. Therefore, to give me some time to implement your suggestions, I would love to have your feedback by Sunday, October 1st.  If you can’t finish it by then, don’t worry about it: Enjoy the book, send feedback in when you can.

If you manage to finish the book and provide feedback on or before October 1st, I’ll send you the 1st draft of Chapter 1 of Mystic Skies, the concluding book in the series.

What’s Next?

Mystic Dragon is scheduled to be published in the U.S. and Canada in July, 2018.

I kindly ask that you do not post book reviews anywhere online until you’ve had a chance to read the final version of the book. That way, if you find something you dislike, I’ll still have a chance to change it.
