NanoWriMo!

by | Nov 4, 2011 | Writing

It’s November, so that means it’s Movember National Novel Writing Month (ie, “NanoWriMo”)! The goal of this month is for writers to sit down and crank out a 50,000 word novel. That’s roughly 300 pages in paperback form.

NanoWriMo 2011I wasn’t specifically planning on participating this year, but when October began to wane, I figured I’d give it a try. … Again. I’d participated back in 2008, and while I didn’t reach 50,000 words (I think I got about half-way there), it was the event that kicked off my current novel-in-progress.

So this month my goal is to add an additional 50,000 new words to that same novel. It’s a big, epic fantasy, so 50,000 words will just be a portion of the overall book. Maybe about a third of it all together? I have roughly 80,000 words already written in first draft form, and so I’m going to try and add a significant amount to that.

So far I’m more or less on track to complete it. The kids are at their grandparents’ this weekend so I’ll have a few days where I can sit down and really focus on getting ahead of the curve.

Wish me luck! I’ll report back in. If you’re participating in NanoWriMo as well, feel free to add me as a buddy.
